The Tepoztlán Municipality located north of the State of Morelos. Approximate distance to the state capital is 18 miles. The municipality covers an area of 242.6 square kilometers, representing 4.89 percent of the total area of the state of Morelos.
The municipality is part of the national park "El Tepozteco" created by presidential decree, issued by President Lazaro Cardenas, dated January 22, 1937, to allocate the area for conservation and protection of flora, fauna and archaeological remains.
