History of Tepoztlan

Tepoztlán's story has not yet been precisely defined, as there is enough historical material to serve as the basis for this information as accurately as possible.

It is unknown who the first settlers, but it is said that initially, Tepoztlán was "crossing point" between the central highlands and what we know today as the state of Morelos.

The Archaeologist Giselle Canto and Hortensia de Vega, identified the first human settlements in the area of "Tecuescontitla" and apparently was inhabited between 500 and 150 a. C. The other settlement known as "Calamatlán" apparently was inhabited between 150 and 650 d. C. But there is a "gap" in the eighth and ninth centuries, and there is not enough information on this period.
